A Pole Barn Year in Review

Cold weather is officially here, the season of bonfires, corn mazes, flannels, and pumpkin spice. For Milmar, its still pole barn season as we work to catch up with busy building schedules and get as much done before the Winter really sets in! The change in weather brings cooler days where our crews can put in a full day’s work without overheating.  As the weather gets cooler, let’s take a look what was built earlier this year! First, we finished the Garden House Barn. It is a farmhouse style barn with white steel trim, covered porch, overhead door, and topped [More]

Amish Roots – Milmar Pole Buildings

Amish Quality It seems there are many products available that claim “Amish Quality”. From furniture, baked goods, garden sheds, and even potato salad, the term can be overused. There isn’t a set definition for Amish quality but most people relate it to old fashioned customization and attention to details along with handmade craftsmanship and quality materials. But what does Amish quality have to do with Milmar Pole Buildings? In The Beginning Milmar owner Marvin Miller was raised and worked in the Amish community. His experience with Amish building practices is first hand. With his unique building perspective he started Milmar [More]

Decorative options for your pole barn

Are you designing a new pole barn or does your current barn need an exterior update? What can you add to give it a custom or vintage look? Do you want a traditional but modern barn?

What does “Milmar” represent?

Milmar didn’t start with a pole barn.  It all started with an extensive log home project.  The name Milmar comes from the name of our owner, Marvin Miller.  He began the company in December of 2006.  His building experience started long before that.  Marvin grew up in the Amish community and learned general construction by working with his dad from the early age of 12 and on.  More importantly than the construction trade, Marvin learned to work hard from his dad’s example.  They built during the day and farmed at night.  There are many companies to choose from that can [More]

Heated Floor Tubing for Pole Barns

A heavy snowfall brings messy roads, snowplows, and salt trucks.  But not in Holland, Michigan, due to their 168 miles of tubing beneath the roads and sidewalks.  It is the largest snow melt system in the country.  Water is heated and sent through the tubing to melt the snow.  Roads are snow and salt free.  This ‘Snowmelt’ system is made up of about 10.5 acres of heated sidewalks and streets.  Streets are clear.  There are fewer falls and accidents.  The businesses of downtown Holland do well even during the typically slow winter months. A similar system can be installed by [More]

Weathering the winter

It’s nearly the end of January.  The sun has been shining this past week.  Don’t let it trick you.  Winter is not going anywhere.  Temperatures are still frigid.  If you are a construction worker, builder, or farmer, there is still work to be done outside.  Here are some ways you can stay warm in the remaining cold days till Spring arrives:   Layer Up Having three to four layers is the best way to stay warm on the jobsite.  Experts recommend a “synthetic, wicking base to pull moisture off skin.”  Your first layer must be moisture wicking.  Sweating will lead [More]
