Pole Building Door Types and Uses - Image

A pole building without the right door may be entirely useless for its owner. Pole buildings have many different uses, from commercial storage to housing animals, but without an appropriate door, they can be insecure or unable to accommodate certain items or livestock.

Early in the design stage, you will need consider the entryways to your pole building. Multi-use and specific use buildings need to accommodate everything you plan to store over the lifetime of the building.

Some of the most versatile doors for your pole building may include: Pole Barn Doors

  • Overhead doors. These doors are commonly seen in residential and commercial automotive applications, but are becoming more popular choices in farm barns and multiuse spaces. They are popular in pole buildings for their size accommodations and ability to move completely out of the way, leaving a more open workspace for the user. Lightweight and easy to manage, modern overhead doors provide security and protection against the elements.
  • Sliding doors. Unlike overhead doors, which can constrict your vertical space when open, a sliding door moves laterally to provide entry into the space. Popularly used in horse barns and other livestock barns, sliding doors can be created from a variety of materials and will fit in aesthetically with the design of your barn.
  • Rollup doors. If you’re looking for an economical and utilitarian solution, rollup doors work well in storage garages and commercial buildings. Their ease of use and durability allow for frequent use and provides moderate protection. Typically made out of metal, these doors cannot accommodate windows, but provide high functionality.

Consider how much and what kind of traffic will be entering and exiting through the doorway to get started. Almost any door can be built with an electronic entry option. Climate may also affect what door will work best. If you live or work in an extreme weather area, talk to a contractor about the door way that will exceed your needs. Rollup doors work well in car storage spaces, while overhead doors are commonly used in multiuse and insulated spaces.

Available in a variety of materials, you can easily customize your door choice to fit your design and functional needs. Typical choices include aluminum or steel, but may come in a variety of colors. Sliding doors can be designed out of wood or metal materials. Depending on your needs, you may be able to use a prefab design for your door. If you need your door to fit specific criteria, you can also customize every aspect of the design to work well with your pole building.
